Ball State Music Education Alternative Licensure


BSU MASTER'S DEGREE AND LICENSE OPTION

Applicants who have earned a Bachelors Degree in Music from an accredited institution may wish to consider pursuing licensure and the Master’s Degree in parallel. Those interested in this option will seek admission as a candidate for the Master of Arts in Music (MA) degree with an emphasis in Music Education. Parallel to completing all requirements for the desired license (determined separately: click HERE), candidates will pursue the following curriculum:

Music (22-27 Credit Hours)
• Applied studies: 4 hours from private study, conducting, and ensemble;
minimum of 1 hour on principal instrument
• History/Musicology: two courses, one must be core; 5-6 hours
• Theory/Composition: two courses, one must be core; 4-6 hours
• Music Education: 6 hours selected from:

MUSED 660 (3)

• Research: MUSED 668 (3)
