This article explains the definition and cultural meaning of Wabi Sabi. Wabi Sabi is a Japanese concept that is deeply embedded into the culture of Japan. It is defined in this article as "the Japanese tradition of celebrating the beauty in what's flawed or worn. It offers an inspiring new look at your home, and your whole life." Traditionally, this idea is everything that the western, sleek and modern look lacks.
Wabi Sabi is finding the beauty in such things like flea markets, sheds, and abandoned buildings contrary to shopping malls, high tech buildings, or even a dozen roses. To be able to find this beauty in what is often considered 'ugly' is the essence of Wabi Sabi. The article goes on to explain how to find Wabi Sabi in your home. The author tells that there is no right or wrong way to 'see' Wabi Sabi but it does intake considering mystery that the "shine of the new" does not possess.
