"Black and White In Color"

The article “Black and White” tells of a woman, Janny Scott who is the author of “How Race Is Lived in America.” She explains in her series the depths of racial complexity by using “Mireya Navarro”, a Hispanic as the character. How race is lived in America and in journalism is full of “contrasts, unexpectations and colliding perspectives.” Because of this, Scott explains that the saying “the only color that matters is green” is indeed understandable. The series showed that race is tightly wrapped around people and adds texture and substance to relationships. Because of the success of her series many conventions were held presenting stories without conclusions but ‘real’ characters who were to be considered. Stories that that falsified racism and prejudices were told. The meaning behind the book is to understand that race is complex. It is deeply rooted and there is indeed a divide. But this has to be celebrated and not misunders
